The department of Pediatric surgery at
Jo Ann Medical Center provides general and specialized surgical services to
infants, children, adolescents suffering from a wide range of congenital and
acquired conditions. The department of pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery
strives to provide premier clinical care to children in both outpatient and
inpatient settings. At the Jo Ann Medical Center we perform all pediatric
cardiac surgical cases in congenital heart disease. Congenital heart defects are the most common
type of birth defect. In Georgia, approximately 600 children are given a birth
with a heart congenital defects each year. Doctors use a physical exam and
special heart tests to diagnose congenital heart defects.

In case of necessity, some congenital heart defects can be treated without radical surgery manipulation by the JAMC’s high qualified invasive cardiovascular specialists. The most of patents ductus arteriosus and atrial septal defects and some types of ventricular septal defects nowadays are closed by endovascular approach. Our cardiologists also treat valve and vessels narrowings of various origin, called valvuloplasty and balloon angioplasty and are performed using special catheters through arteries and/or veins of upper or lower extremities, in a catheterization lab equipped with a modern X-Ray equipment.
