Follicular cells of the thyroid gland produce\u00a0 hormones that are important for the human organism, they affect all vital organs, these hormones are T3 and T4. Their excess\u00a0 or lack may cause serious pathologies . There are conditions\u00a0 that\u00a0 proceed with an excess or lack of the thyroid gland function<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2013 What is \u201cgoiter\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is\u00a0 a diffused enlargement of the thyroid gland, or development of a thyroid nodule, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The goiter may be associated with a thyrotoxicosis (E.g. during Grave\u2019s disease) or hypothyroidism (E.g. autoimmune thyroiditis), or it may proceed without any functional changes (E.g. endemic goiter) .<\/p>\n<p>Signs and symptoms typical for thyrotoxicosis are: accelerated heart rate, palpitation, unexplained weight loss, diarrhea, emotional lability, increase excitability, excessive sweeting,\u00a0 upper extremity tremor , while\u00a0 reduced function or hypothyroidism\u00a0 is association with decreased heart rate, relaxation, drowsiness, constipation, swelling of the face and\u00a0 limbs, weight gain, hair loss and dry skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>How goiter is diagnosed and treated?
